High-Performance FortiPhy™ Coatings by Phygen
are Tough, Hard Surface Coatings Used in Wood Products Tooling
Challenges
The
wood products industry uses a variety of processes, such as
sawing (for logging and lumber production), flaking and chipping
(for pulp and paper production), and precision cutting and
lathe work (for veneer, plywood, and secondary wood products).
Regardless of the process, metal cutting blades are subjected
to difficult conditions for long hours, without the benefits
of lubrication or coolant.
Depending upon the wood source, hardness and abrasiveness
can vary widely from one run to the next. Scrap and recycled
wood can cause variations within the same run. Blades must
maintain precise cutting angles and stay sharp to prevent
gouging, overheating, and breakage. UltraEndurance™
coatings from Phygen can keep cutting blades sharper and tougher,
reduce maintenance, and improve quality and productivity.
High-performance FortiPhy™
coatings by Phygen can reduce the problems of premature
wear and breakage. FortiPhy is a tough, hard coating, with
exceptionally high adhesion. It is applied using a patented
process that ensures an unprecedented level of process control
and coating uniformity.
FortiPhy's nanocrystalline structure is free of pores, columnar
structures, and inclusions, any of which could lead to cracks,
corrosion, and uneven wear. An
important benefit of FortiPhy corrosion resistant coating
is its coefficient of friction, which is lower than most commonly
used polymers and polycarbonate coatings.
